Before Online Dating, This Is How You Met Your Lover

Some 30 years before Tinder made hooking up as easy as swiping a screen, dating videos were the default option for those risking it all on the wheel of love.

Back in the 1980's dating agencies would record you describing your hobbies, passions and interests, all whilst clothed in your finest threads. You'd also include a description of your ideal partner, the characteristics you were looking for and those you were hoping to avoid. But perhaps most importantly, you had (apparently) use more than a few cringeworthy catchphrases too...

I'm not afraid to get sand on my tuxedo, if you're not afraid to let the wind mess your hair up a little bit when I take the top down.

Your video was recorded to VHS and then shared with someone else who had similar interests and whose profile you fit. If they liked your video and you were a fan of theirs, the agency would then set you up on a date and introduce the two of you.

Although, as you're about to see from the following clips - its likely many of these men are still waiting for their perfect match or just for someone, anyone in fact, to give them a call back.

How times have changed....
